Dr. Federico Hawkins Carranza is working in clinical research, at the Research Institute i+12, University Hospital 12 de Octubre. He graduated as a Physician from the University of Salamanca and in Psychology from the Pontificia University. He went to Fundación Jimenez Diaz, where he made the Residence in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. He worked as Fellow Research in the Laboratory of Diabetes, of Professor Manuel Serrano Rios, in the field of Gastrointestinal Hormones and Insulin secretion was acquired Ph.D. Then he went for a year to the Endocrine Unit of the Hammersmith Hospital to work with Professor Ian MacIntyre in the field of calciotrophic hormones, especially in radioimmunoassays. In 1991 he was appointed as Chief of the Service of Endocrinology and of the Unit of Metabolic Bone Diseases of the University Hospital 12 of October in Madrid. In 2000, he was promoted to Chairman of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid. He has published more than 200 papers in journals of medicine, with special relevance in the field of diabetes, osteoporosis, and organ transplantation. He is a member of several scientific societies and has been Associated Director of EndoText and participated as coauthor of a chapter in Parathyroid Diseases in Farreras-Rozman, Internal Medicine textbook of Spain.
